The Lenape story of how Crow brought Fire to the people

“The Rainbow Crow was beautiful to hear and to see, back in the days when it never got cold, back in the Ancient Days, before Snow Spirit appeared in the World.
When the Snow Spirit did appear, all the people and animals were freezing and a messenger was selected to go up to kijilamuh ka’ong, The Creator Who Creates By Thinking What Will Be. The messenger was to ask The Creator to think of the World as being warm again so that they would not all freeze to death.

Rainbow Crow was chosen to go and he flew upward for three days. He got the Creator’s attention by singing beautifully, but even though he begged the Creator to make it warm again, the Creator said He could not, because He had thought of Cold and He could not unthink it. But He did think of Fire, a thing that could warm the creatures even when it was cold. And so He poked a stick into the Sun until it was burning, and the gave it to Rainbow Crow to carry back to earth for the creatures.

The Creator told Rainbow Crow to hurry before it burned all up.
Rainbow Crow dove down and flew as fast as he could go. The burning stick charred all of his beautiful feathers until they were black and since he was carrying the stick in his beak, he breathed the smoke and heat until his voice was hoarse.

And so the Rainbow Crow was black and had an unpleasant cawing voice forever after, but all the creatures honored him, for he had brought Tindeh, fire, for everyone to use.

The Crow is to this day, still honored by hunters and animals, who never kill it for food…and, if you look closely at the Crow’s black feathers you can still see many colors gleaming in the black.”

Warming up by the fire

The Moon just entered the sign of Leo and will be there until December 29

With the Sun in ambitious and earthy Capricorn, we see our goals and we are willing to work to succeed.  The Moon in Leo can help fuel the creative fires with the supportive trines from Saturn and Uranus. This can add an overall inspiring and beneficial influence. The Moon will also square Venus in Scorpio showing that we might be ruled by unconscious desires at the moment.  If we can tame our spirits and connect to our deeper motivations we can discriminate between the genuine need to surpass ourselves and the more superficial ambitions that are driving us. Overall the next 2 days are very creative and exciting. We can fuel on the passionate and innovative fires and design new structures and new ways of doing things. We can also expect a few philosophical or religious debates around the fireplace since some of us are still in the midst of family reunions and holiday gatherings.

Horitomo- State of Grace

The Moon in Leo person is usually warm-hearted and expressive with their emotions. They can go to great length to spoil the ones they love showering them with gifts and attention.  Leo is a Fixed Fire sign which gives these natives lasting powers and an overall courageous disposition. They are bold, generous and faithful in their passions. It can be difficult for the Moon in Leo people to put down the more brazen persona and show their vulnerable side. They can benefit in learning to discriminate between their social mask and the more private self.

Fall Equinox: An unacknowledge feeling of specialness

The Sun just moved into Libra and the Moon is in Aquarius.

Libra and Aquarius are both Air signs which favor intellect and reflection above emotional display. But if we scratch the surface, we can see that the appearances are deceiving at the moment.

The ruler of Libra is Venus. Venus is in the sign of Leo a Fixed Fire sign.
Both the traditional ruler of Aquarius: Saturn and its modern ruler: Uranus are also in Fire signs. Saturn just moved into Sagittarius a Mutable Fire sign and Uranus is in the Cardinal Fire sign of Aries.

We could be maintaining an air of polite detachment while some big internal changes are happening.
We could also feel like we are unjustly being excluded from the action. The desire for warmth exchange, community and friendship might be strong but it doesn’t come easily. Our specialness is left unrecognized. A sense of isolation or frustration around not being seen for who we are.

We are prompt to stay cool-headed and diplomatic to keep the relationships that we have. Wanting real communication while simultaneously not being able to say everything. The want for company and partnership is strong but the wish to have it our way might be stronger.

The amount of egoic desires we bring in our relationships might determine their quality.

We are walking the line between participation and exclusion. And you might be the one excluding yourself or burning bridges.

The conversation is also happening on a collective scale. Heated debates and words like: ”alien” is use to describe migrants and refugees. There is a need to find creative ways to deal with the global community.

Who belongs where and who was here first? Races and religions are at the forefront. How long can we stay diplomatic? The need to discard some old dogmatic beliefs has come. This is a period of change and the best way to deal with change is by staying flexible. It is important to  remember our role as individuals in affecting those changes whether it is in the choices we make as consumers or in our contribution to society.
