The month of July ends with a New Moon in Leo which will be exact at 23:12 EDT on July 31st. A few minutes later, Mercury stations direct in Cancer after being retrograde since the 7th of July. The New Moon in Leo and Mercury direct initiates us into the month of August, on the other side of eclipse season and in the bright light of the Sun who is at home in the sign of Leo.

The Full Moon in Aquarius takes place on August 14, just as Venus in Leo reaches her superior conjunction moving behind the Sun. This marks the time when Venus transition from the morning to evening sky. Venus will be visible as a bright evening “star” in the sky after sunset in September and October 2019.

The Full Moon in Aquarius brings a culmination in regards to our own needs and desires versus the desires of the whole. Certain people might be accused of selfishness during this time as we try to reconcile our values with the values of others. Venusian matters will certainly be on our mind in mid-August and a division could be felt in regards to the practical versus the superfluous. We might feel more indulgent and deserving and this could create some friction with others who are also trying to get their piece of cake. Mercury will pass very close to the Sun in the sky as its orbit carries it around the far side of the solar system from the Earth. If a planet is right at the core of the Sun, then it is utterly consumed and this is called being ‘cazimi’. Mercury going into the heart of the Sun means that for a small window of time Mercury is super powered while sitting on the royal throne.

Mercury briefly strengthened by its union with the Solar principle, gives us an opportunity to unite mind and spirit. Our thoughts can be purified, clarified and renewed in the Solar forge.

Mercury and the Sun together in Libra could give us insights as to where things might have gotten unbalanced, unfair, unjust and, the solutions needed to rectify the scales.

The Sun in Libra is considered in its ”fall” and pretty weak. It’s also the time of the year when things are dying as opposed to coming to life. With Mercury conjunct the Sun today I imagine realization and clarity will tend to be more around endings, death and decay as oppose to new beginnings and there is a definite liminal quality to this time of the year.

Mercury and the Sun will also square Pluto at the moment of their conjunction. This means that the unusual clarity we receive today could be combined with the urge to tear down and transform some of the existing structures in our lives.

Do not expect today’s sharpness to be long-lasting. The lucidity that comes with the Sun/Mercury conjunction will quickly vanish once Mercury leaves the Solar throne. Then, the real work of implementing what was revealed begins.

Sun in Virgo: Boldness & Patience

The Sun is now at 0º Virgo in a conjunction with the fixed star Regulus (The heart of the Lion). This interesting part of the zodiac is often associated with The Sphinx; the meeting of the lion with the maiden.

We are on the other side of the much-anticipated and powerful Solar Eclipse/New Moon at 28º Leo. It will take a few weeks before we assimilate and understand what this means for us on a personal scale but also for the world we live in.

We are being pushed towards bold new beginnings but with Mercury retrograde in Virgo until September 5th our ambitious goals will need careful and deliberate planning. With the Sun in Virgo for the next month, we must bow down to the earth and the natural rhythms of nature. A shift has occurred but it will take time before it becomes visible and we must tend to the ordinary in order to bring about the extraordinary.

August is not just the eighth month of the year; it also describes something esteemed or regal. Although we are not quite done with July, the spirited Leo New Moon on July 23rd opens up the Fixed summer season with a bold thrust.

The New Moon takes place on Sunday July 23rd at 0º Leo as we make way for the royal displays of our hearts longing. The New Moon will also be 1º away from Mars who will land its sparks to the fire and ignite individual will.

Meanwhile, Mercury in Leo will be 2 degrees from the North Node or Head of the Dragon and form a grand fire trine with Uranus in Aries and Saturn in Sagittarius. Like a hot air balloon we could find ourselves benefiting from a certain amount of heat and pressure to propel us forward. Necessary planning along with audacity and conviction will be required for the journey ahead.

Today, the Sun enters the Fire sign of Sagittarius. Sagittarian are known for their gregarious dispositions and big smiles. The Aries season is officially on. The return of the light for us here in the northern hemisphere means the return of life. Everything is slowly waking up, including us. The urge is to forge ahead, break new ground and create a new set of circumstances. You could feel like you are full of new ideas/momentum for the future and ready to go! You might also feel like things are not moving fast enough.

Venus is lingering in the sign of Pisces triggering the recent eclipse material and she will conjunct Chiron on Wednesday. There is a need to integrate older material (crap) that surfaced or perhaps completely let it go. Venus in Pisces support us in doing so with full awareness and compassion not only for ourselves but for others. It’s a great week to integrate past hurts without staying stuck in the quagmire.

This is definitely a time of evolution so don’t linger too long in your wounds but move with the awareness of why you are doing what you do and where you are going. Take the time to process your recent realisations or experiences. You can forge ahead towards new territories, but still very much be fueled by the past and by what came before. Remember WHY you are doing what you do and this will help you progress.

The Jupiter/Saturn square is still on – slowing down progress and asking us for a full detailed report. Advancement is possible but it has to be slow and deliberate.

In a broader sense there is a clash between philosophical/political/religious/spiritual ideas and a general cacophony of voices on the public stages. The urge to take a strong stance to defend our beliefs is definitely one signature of this Jupiter/Saturn square.

We also have Lilith at 29 degrees of Virgo. The 29th degree in astrology is known as the anaretic degree. The 29th degree displays the most extreme attributes of the celestial body and the sign it is in. The matters influenced by the planet in this degree have reached a critical phase of development and must be dealt with.

There are so many meanings attributed to Lilith.  She is a dark and eccentric mythic figure banished into the wilderness for rebelling against the oppressor (read patriarchy). This is one example of the archetypes showing up but the experience will be highly personal.

And then… we have the bright Sun in Leo in a square with Saturn in Scorpio. Time to grow up kid, face reality and pay your dues. The desire nature is all fired up (Mars in Leo) but the only thing you can do now is face your responsibilites, deal with life and be an adult about it. Did you deliver the goods?
